Cultural Immersion in Palestine

In Hebron, West Bank, you’ll get more than just an immersion into Palestinian culture, politics, and daily life. You’ll also have the chance to learn about the current human rights situation of Palestinian refugees by visiting local refugee camps and Palestinian villages.

Furthermore, as part of the intensive summer Arabic program, we arrange visits and tours to various Palestinian universities, Bedouin communities in places like Susya and Masafer Yatta, and the Hebron Hills. Additionally, you’ll have the opportunity to connect with local Palestinian families, providing you with a comprehensive and deeply immersive experience.

From June to Late September

The Summer Arabic program in Hebron, Palestine is an immersive language learning experience that will take place from June to late September. This Arabic language summer program offers participants the unique opportunity to learn Arabic in an authentic and immersive environment, while also experiencing the rich Palestine culture and history of the West Bank, Palestine.

The Summer Arabic immersion program is designed to be flexible, allowing participants to choose when they would like to participate. Starting on the 1st day of each month (June, July, August, and September), there are three 4-week Arabic sessions available. This means that if you desire, you can spend up to three months living and studying Arabic with us.

A Wide Range of Arabic Dialects

Our Summer Intensive Arabic Program in Palestine covers a wide range of Arabic dialects including:

Furthermore, Volunteer in Palestine offers a variety of Arabic dialects, accommodating students at different proficiency levels, including beginners, intermediates, and advanced Arabic learners.

For the intensive Arabic Program, you’ll receive 80 hours of Arabic language instruction during each monthly session (4 weeks). The super intensive Program provides an extended 120 hours of instruction.

During your Arabic classes, you’ll have the opportunity to focus on your preferred Arabic dialect for four or six hours a day, five days a week.

• Fees include breakfast, the accommodation, Arabic classes, as well as some visits to different institutions in the city of Hebron. A Small Group Setting

Our summer intensive Arabic programs in Hebron, West Bank, Palestine are provided in small group settings made up of 2-5 Arabic students to ensure the quality of the course and to give each student the chance to speak, discuss, participate and develop their Arabic language skills to their fullest.

Additionally, it will give you the chance to get the full attention from our highly qualified and experienced Arabic teachers who have studied and attended events both nationally and internationally.

Living with a Palestinian Host Family

As part of our summer intensive Arabic program, you will be offered accommodation with a local Palestinian host family for the duration of your study in Hebron, giving you plenty of opportunities to practice your Arabic with local Palestinian people including women, children, youth and local community members. You may even get the chance to attend weddings and other cultural events with your host family.   

Moreover, the intensive Arabic coursework combined with the daily interactions with the Palestinian host family will help you increase your Arabic proficiency within a short period of time, regardless of the level you are studying at.

Arabic Program Structure

The Summer Intensive Arabic Program offers Arabic classes tailored to all proficiency levels, including Starter, Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced.

These Arabic classes are held five days a week, with two dedicated days for field trips within Hebron and the West Bank, all conducted in Arabic/English.

The Best Way to Learn Arabic Rapidly

Our Summer Arabic Intensive Classes are the best option for those who want to accelerate their Arabic language learning. We give students with 4-6 hours of Arabic sessions every day, allowing them to maintain a continuous engagement with the language.

You will almost always cover the equivalent of one semester of Arabic language study in just four weeks with Volunteer in Palestine, resulting in a greater language retention rate and quicker proficiency.

Eligibility

This Summer Intensive Arabic Immersion Program in Hebron, Palestine is open to students, undergraduates, graduates, retirees, Arabic learners and mature students with an academic background. However, English-language fluency is also required and you must be between 16-70 years old to apply.

Language Proficiency Level

We offer a full Arabic curriculum, (with books and all course materials included), at six different levels to accommodate students of all language experiences and proficiencies including:

• Starter Arabic Courses

For those who do not have any prior knowledge of the Arabic language and would like to start with learning the alphabet, this course will allow you to gain the fundamental skills in reading and writing Arabic as well as understanding and engaging in simple, daily conversations.

• Beginner Arabic Courses

The beginner Arabic courses are offered at two levels: Beginner I and Beginner II. These Arabic lessons are designed for participants who already have a basic knowledge of Arabic and would like to develop their speaking, writing, reading, and listening skills.

• Intermediate Arabic Courses

The intermediate Arabic courses are also offered at two levels: Intermediate I and Intermediate II. Typically, these lessons provide you with the opportunity for Arabic conversations with native speakers to improve your conversational and colloquial skills. Moreover, we focus on further improving your reading, writing and listening abilities.

• Advanced Arabic Courses

At this level, you will concentrate on refining and perfecting your speaking and writing skills by learning sophisticated and technical vocabulary for use in most topics and discussions.

Can I Add More Arabic Hours to My Study Program?

Of course! Students in all of our Summer Intensive Arabic Immersion Program are free to add in additional Arabic language hours, with each hour costing 25 Euro.

Traveling to and From Hebron, West Bank

All of the Excellence Center’s volunteers travel to and from Hebron using single or shared taxis which pass through checkpoints.

How to Fly to Palestine?

The easiest way to get to Hebron, West Bank is to fly to:

• Ben Gurion, Tel Aviv Airport in Israel. It takes about two and a half hours from the airport to Hebron via shared taxi.

Alternatively:

• Flying to Eilat airport in the south of Israel and then traveling by shuttle or by taking a bus to Jerusalem and then to Hebron. However, the duration of the trip can last between six and seven hours.

• Flying to Queen Alia International Airport in Amman, Jordan and then crossing the border to Palestine. However, this takes more time and is more expensive

How Do I Get a Visa to Visit Palestine?

Most of our international Arabic students get a tourist visa for three months when they fly to Israeli airports or cross from Jordan to the West Bank.

Generally, no prior visa is needed for Americans, Canadians and most Europeans in order to enter Palestine but please refer to the visa exemption agreement for further information. Upon your arrival at the Israeli Airports in Tel Aviv or Eilat, you will be granted a tourist visa that is valid for 90 days. This is sufficient for participation in Volunteer in Palestine’s programs and to enable you to travel around Palestine and Israel easily.

Tel Aviv Airport Pickups

Our staff can organize a taxi to pick you up at Ben Gurion Airport and take you straight to Hebron and the Center. This is the easiest and fastest way (about an hour, 60 km/37 miles) to get to us.

Additional fees apply and the trip costs about 160 Euro. Please us if you are interested in this option.
